I received a phone call last week from a pet owner who works with dachshund rescue units and had rescue a dachshund that lost one of his rear pads. This pad wasn’t just torn it was completely gone. The veterinarian told him it would eventually grow back but the dog continues to lick it and re-opening the wound as well as causing it to swell up. He was at wits end. He has searched for a solution and was hoping I could help.
So I sent him a sample of my xtra small dog bootie. This is the reason I came up with the dog booties in the first place, to help pet owners manage these types of injuries. It is so satisfying to be able to offer a product that can relieve a pets suffering.
My advice to Mike and other the pet owners who find themselves in a similar situation is:
1. soak the paw twice a day in a benadyne solution to keep it clean.
2. Apply some Neosporin to the gauze pad inside the dog booties to help relieve the itching while it heals.
3. Keep the dog booties on the paw for at least one month if not two.
This is what I had to do when healing my dogs paws and hopefully it will help Mikes dog as well.
My dog bootie will provide the necessary air flow and help keep the injury dry. All necessary for healing.
I wish Mike luck and look forward to hearing how his dog is doing.
